This policy explains what TripUpNow collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and who else sees it. It covers the TripUpNow mobile app, the web app at app.tripupnow.com, and this website.
TripUpNow is operated from India and is intended for travellers exploring India — currently Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Delhi, with more regions being added. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
You sign in with Google. From that we receive your name, email address and Google profile photo, and we store a Google account identifier so we can recognise you next time. We never see or store your Google password.
With your permission, the app uses your device location to show places near you, plan routes and provide local weather. When you check in at a place, we store the precise coordinates and accuracy reading of that check-in — this is what verifies you were actually there, and it is what makes the rewards fair.
If location permission is unavailable, we may estimate your approximate area from your IP address so the app can still show something useful.
Each request from the app tells us the platform (Android, iOS or web), the app version, the device model, and a random identifier generated on your device at install. That identifier is not linked to any advertising ID and is reset if you reinstall the app. We use it to tell one person on three devices apart from three people, and to know which app versions are still in use so we can support them.
We record product-analytics events so we can see which parts of TripUpNow are actually used and where people get stuck. This includes:
Reviews and ratings you write, places you favourite, trips you save, your trip progress, and the coins you have earned. Reviews you post are visible to other TripUpNow users alongside your name and profile photo.
We do not use any of this for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
The app has a leaderboard, and it is public to everyone using TripUpNow. If you have earned any coins, other users can see your name, profile photo, coin total and the number of places you have visited. They cannot see which places, when you went, or anything about your location.
You can take yourself off it at any time: Profile → Privacy → Show me on the leaderboard. Turning it off hides you from other people's boards immediately. You keep earning coins, and you can still see your own rank.
Reviews you write are also public — the review text, your rating and your name appear on the place you reviewed. You can delete a review at any time.
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. A small number of services necessarily receive some data in order to make the app work:
We may also disclose data if we are legally required to.
You can ask us to delete your TripUpNow account and the data attached to it at any time.
Email support@tripupnow.com from the email address you signed up with, with the subject “Account deletion request”. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.
Deleting your account removes your profile, reviews, favourites, saved trips, trip progress, check-in history, coin balance and usage history. Anonymous, aggregated counts that cannot identify you — for example “how many people used the app in July” — may remain.
You can also remove individual items without deleting your account: delete a review from the place it is on, remove a saved trip or favourite from your profile, and revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit over HTTPS. Sign-in tokens are held in your device's secure storage — the Android Keystore or iOS Keychain — rather than in plain files.
TripUpNow is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and move the “last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
